How to Take Video of iPhone Screen?
How to Take Video of iPhone Screen? Whether you’re trying to explain a glitch to a tech support staff or an iPhone task to your coworkers, being able to quickly and effectively screen record your iPhone is useful. Fortunately, Apple made it straightforward to do so with the release of iOS 14 in 2020. Continue reading to learn how to rapidly access and use the built-in feature on any modern iPhone to take native screen recordings.
How to Take Video of iPhone Screen?
1. Locate “Control Center” in your Settings app.
With iOS 14 in 2020, Apple provided a quick, straightforward way to record your screen, but you’ll need to activate it before you can use it. To do so, open your Settings app and navigate to Control Center.
2. Make a Screen Recording button available in your Control Center.
Once in the Control Center section, you’ll notice a few toggles, an “Included Controls” section with all of the choices that have already been placed in your Control Center, and a “More Controls” section.
You may need to scroll down a little based on how many controls are active. Find Screen Recording (as shown above in the red rectangle) and press the green Plus icon to its left in the More Controls area. This adds it to the Included Controls area and makes it available through Control Center.
3. Launch your Control Center.
The next step is to launch Control Center. This is possible from your home screen or from the large majority of iPhone apps. Swiping down from the top-right corner of the display on iPhones without a physical Home Button gives you access to it.
Swiping up from the bottom of the display on iPhones with a physical Home Button gives you access to it. When it’s open, scroll through the choices until you find the button that looks like a solid circle within a hollow circle, as shown in red above.
4. Start recording your screen.
When you’re ready, tap the Screen Recording button to start recording. This initiates a three-second countdown. The recording will commence at the end. Before the video capture begins, you can use this countdown time to close the Control Center and return to the genuine subject of your Screen Recording.
To signify that recording is engaged, the Screen Recording button in Control Center will change to white, and the icon within it will turn red. A red indicator will surround the clock on the upper left of your display.
Step 5: Take notes.
This is the time to finish whatever task you want to screen record. After you’ve done recording your task, proceed to the next step.
When you’re ready to cease recording, there are two options. The first step is to click the red clock in the upper left corner of your screen. This will result in a dialogue box similar to the one seen above. To end your recording, press the “Stop” button. If you’re in a full-screen program that hides the clock, pull out your Control Center and touch the Screen Recording option again. If you choose the second approach, the recording will terminate instantly, with no need for confirmation.
In all circumstances, the recording you just made will be stored in your Photos collection right away. You can play it back, share it, edit it, and do everything else you could do with a video taken with your iPhone’s built-in camera in the Photos app.
More Ways to Record Your Screen
Directly Record From Your iPhone or iPad (ios 11)
There was a time when you had to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad in order to achieve this. However, since iOS 11, Apple has made it possible to do so.
On your phone, navigate to Settings -> Control Center -> Customize Controls, then touch the “+” button next to Screen Recording.
Now launch Control Center and press the record button. There is a three-second countdown before the screen begins recording (the status bar becomes red).
Simply hit the red status bar at the top of your screen and then tap Stop to stop recording. You can also reopen the Control Center and press the (red) recording button.
You may define the video/audio format (you can’t record system audio), the framerate (on a scale, you can’t actually choose which framerate you’re using), whether to show “taps” (a circle that marks where the taps are done), and whether the phone is used in portrait or landscape orientation.
This is really neat. However, you may still want to use QuickTime Player in some cases if you do not want to view the red status bar (or if it is not “formatted” by Apple) or for frame rate concerns. That’s why we still use QuickTime to record iPhone screens at our app video firm.
Quicktime Player
This option was added with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, and it is the one we recommend for recording the iPhone or iPad screen. All you require is the following:
- A device running iOS 8 or later.
- OS X Yosemite or later is required.
- Lightning cord (the cable that comes with iOS devices)
There is no need for a jailbreak, a third-party app, or any other hardware. The steps are as follows:
- Use the lightning cord to connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac.
- Launch QuickTime Player
- Select ‘New Movie Recording’ from the File menu.
- A window for recording will display (with you in it, most likely). Select your iPhone or iPad by clicking the tiny arrow in front of the record button.
- If you wish to record music or sound effects, use your iPhone’s microphone.
- Press the Record button. Now, on your iOS device, execute the tasks you wish to record.
- When finished, use the stop button to save the video.
Quick tip: you may instantly trim your video before storing it by pressing Cmd + T, so you just keep the relevant part of the recording.
If you have any problems (which is likely), update both your iPhone (iOS updated) and your Mac.
ScreenFlow
ScreenFlow, like QuickTime, allows you to record your iOS device. The added benefit is that you can edit the movie within ScreenFlow rather than needing to use another tool, such as iMovie.
ScreenFlow can sometimes capture video better than QuickTime, which can be jerky. You should start with QuickTime because it is free. But if that doesn’t work, give ScreenFlow a shot.
To begin, connect your iOS smartphone to your Mac through a Lightning wire and launch ScreenFlow. It will detect your device and provide you the option to record the screen.
Check that the Record Screen from the box is checked and that the correct device is selected. If you want to record the audio as well, check the Record Audio box and select the appropriate device.
Then press the record button and begin demonstrating your app. ScreenFlow will open the editing screen once you have finished recording.
Isn’t it simple?

FAQs on How to Take Video of iPhone Screen
What does the Screen Recording app actually capture?
It records everything that happens on your iPhone’s screen as well as any sound made by the iPhone itself while recording. This includes any activities you take, full-screen films, and audio you play through websites, apps, and so on.
Can I add narration to my captured videos?
Unfortunately, the built-in iPhone screen-recording tool does not permit collecting narration or other input from your cameras while they are active. However, there are free third-party solutions available for download from Apple’s App Store that include features such as narration, an integrated face cam or back camera feed, and more. We’ve compiled a list of three of the best-reviewed options below:
1. Techsmith Capture – A simple screen recorder program that works almost identically to the built-in procedure but allows for real-time narration using the iPhone’s built-in microphones.
2. RecordIt! – A little more complicated alternative that includes real-time narration and post-capture editing. It also enables face cam captures, allowing you to record both your screen and yourself.
3. Screen Recorder + – An alternative to RecordIt! For those spur-of-the-moment catches, Screen Recorder Plus boasts a one-second startup time.
How can I share my recorded video?
Screen recordings can be shared using the same methods as films and photographs taken with your iPhone’s built-in camera. This includes AirDrop, Messages, email, and any third-party apps that allow you to share media.
Be aware that some apps, specifically email and messaging apps that do not use Apple’s iMessage platform, may have size limits that screen recordings, particularly longer ones, may surpass.
