How to Recharge the Battery of Your Sony Digital Camera
How do you charge your Sony camera if you don’t have access to a charger?
Here are four different approaches.
4 Alternatives to Using a Charger to Recharge Your Sony Camera Battery
There are four different methods for charging your Sony camera’s batteries without the use of an external power source.
- Make use of a power bank to recharge. Select a charging port with a minimum current of 1.5A.
- Charge your phone using a computer. It works best when connected directly to a USB port, rather than through a USB hub.
- Charge your device with a wall plug. Select a 1.5A adaptor as a bare minimum.
- Charge your phone using the USB port in your car. Select a 1.5A (or 18 watt) output power. This Anker charger has two 18W (1.5A) USB ports on the back.
Detailed Step by Step Guide
METHOD 1: Using the Camera 1 as an example
1. The battery door lock on the camera should be slid to the “Open” position, then fully inserted into the camera until the Eject lever is locked in place.
Close the battery cover door after you’ve finished.
If the battery has already been fitted, make sure that the camera is turned off before continuing.
2. Connect the smaller end of the micro-USB cable to the micro-USB connector on the Sony Cyber-shot with the larger end facing up.
3. Connect the opposite end of the micro-USB cable to the charger’s USB port using the included USB cable.
Alternatively, you can connect this end to a USB port on your computer that is available.
4. Take the rotating plug out of the charger and insert it into a wall socket by swinging it out.
When the charging light turns off, the charging process has been completed.
Making use of the Charger 1 Shut down the Sony Cyber-shot and take the battery out of the battery compartment.
It is usually accomplished by opening the battery cover and pressing on the Eject lever on the majority of models.
METHOD 2: The battery should be placed into the battery charging bay on the charger.
1. Check that the metal contacts on the battery are aligned with the metal prongs in the battery bay before installing the battery.
2. Connect the charger to a standard wall outlet.
3. When the charging light turns off, the charging process has been completed.
4. On some models, allowing the battery to charge for an additional hour or so will result in a significantly longer battery life overall.
5. This is the difference between a “Normal” charge and a “Full.”
METHOD 3: While the battery pack is put in the camera, it is being charged.
When using the camera for the first time, make sure that the battery pack is completely charged. It is possible that the fully charged battery pack will gradually deplete even if you do not use it. Charge the battery pack prior to shooting to ensure that you don’t miss a good shot opportunity.
1. Turn the power off if it is on.
2. Connect the camera with the battery pack inserted to the AC Adaptor (provided) using the micro USB cable (included), and then connect the AC Adaptor to a wall outlet using the power cord (supplied) (wall socket).
METHOD 4: Charge lamp turned on: Charging Off: Charging has been completed.
1. Because the camera is not operating within the recommended temperature range, the flashing indicates a charging fault or that charging has been interrupted briefly.
2. In this case, the battery pack is fully charged if the charge lighting illuminates only once and then instantly goes out.
3. Time required for charging (Full charge)
When utilizing the AC Adaptor, the charging time is around 230 minutes (supplied).
The amount of time it takes to charge the battery depends on the amount of capacity left in the battery pack and the charging conditions.
Even if the battery pack is not completely drained, it is possible to charge it.
In this case, the charging time stated above is for a fully exhausted battery pack (provided) at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). Depending on the conditions of use and the surrounding environment, charging may take longer.
Note
It’s important to remove the battery pack or unplug the USB cable from the camera and re-insert it if the charge lamp is flashing while the battery pack is not fully charged.
It is possible that the camera’s charge lamp will blink when the AC Adaptor is attached to a wall outlet (wall socket), indicating that charging has been briefly halted due to the temperature being outside of the recommended range. The charging process is restarted after the temperature has returned to the proper operating range. We recommend charging the battery pack at a temperature ranging from 10°C to 30°C (50oF to 86oF) above room temperature.
Connect the Adaptor to the nearest electrical outlet using the provided wires (wall socket). If a fault occurs while the AC Adaptor is being used, immediately pull the plug from the wall outlet (wall socket) to ensure that the power source is no longer connected.
In some cases, when you use a completely new battery pack or a battery pack that has not been used in a long time, the charge lamp may flash rapidly when the battery is charged for the first time after it has been entirely discharged. If this occurs, remove the battery pack from the camera or detach the USB cord from the camera and then re-insert the battery pack or USB cable to recharge the camera.
If the battery pack is already fully charged or near to being fully charged, do not charge it indefinitely or repeatedly without removing it from the charger. It is possible that this will result in a decrease in battery performance.
Upon completion of the charging process, remove the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet (wall socket).
Only genuine Sony brand battery packs, micro USB cables (which are included), and AC adaptors should be used with this product (supplied).

1. Find out how to charge your Cyber-shot battery while it’s still in the camera.
2. Charge your device with a wall plug. Select a 1.5A adaptor as a bare minimum. Sony has endorsed this product.
3. Using an external power bank, recharge your phone. Select a charging port with a minimum current of 1.5A.
4. Charge your device using the USB port in your automobile. 1.5 amps (or 18 watts) of output power.
5. Charge your phone using a computer. It works best when linked directly to a USB port; avoid using a USB hub. This is the most time-consuming charging option
What should you do if the charge lamp flashes? For the most part, there are three common reasons for this.
1. If the charging process does not complete, it could suggest that the battery is not properly positioned. Removing and re-inserting the battery pack is required.
2. If this does not resolve the issue, it is possible that you will need to clean the battery terminals. You can clean them with a soft cloth or a Q-tip to give them a fresh appearance.
3. When the temperature is too high or too low, a flashing charge bulb may appear. When the temperature recovers to the appropriate temperature range, the light will stop flashing and the charging process will begin again..
Sony, like all other manufacturers, recommends that you charge your battery with a genuine Sony battery charger.
This hasn’t been necessary in my experience. It has been many years since I’ve used Wasabi Power chargers and batteries, and I’ve used them with a variety of cameras, including GoPro and Canon cameras. Sony’s NP-BX1 battery has higher power (1600 mAh) than the first Sony battery, which was released in Wasabi (1240 mAh).
OUR FINAL THOUGHTS
Charging your Sony camera is easy once you know how. Just follow these simple steps and you’ll be snapping pics like a pro in no time! Thanks for reading and don’t forget to charge your camera battery regularly to keep those pics coming.
